Adulting 101at Southwest Library

  • Thursday, Aug. 25, 5:30-6:30 p.m.
Join us for a five-month series of Adulting 101 classes. Classes will be hosted the fourth Thursday of every month from June until October 2022. We will cover topics such as financial literacy and budgeting, college and career planning, and health care basics. Suggested for teens and young adults.

Learn the game of chess by visiting the Westside Library.  A brief explanation of basic rules and game strategy along with family friendly competition may inspire participants to become lifelong chess fans.

Board Games at Westside Library

Clay Leaf Pressing at Molino Library

  • Tuesday, Aug. 9, 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Capture the life of a leaf at Molino Library through the art of clay pressings. Materials will be provided, but feel free to bring your favorite leaf!

Chair Yoga at Southwest Library

  • Thursday, Aug. 4, 4:30-5:30 p.m.
You don’t have to go to a gym to improve your flexibility. You don’t even have to leave your chair! Join us for an hour of stretching and breathing exercises that can be performed while seated.

Join us at the Genealogy Library for a special craft activity. We will be making personalized “bottlecap bracelets”.

Creative Writing Journal at Pensacola Library

  • Mondays-Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Saturday, 10 a.m.-4p.m.
Writing can be an uphill battle, and sometimes getting started is the hardest part. Jumpstart your creative process with monthly themed prompts, exercises, and writing tips. Use these ideas to start a novel, explore a scene, or write a poem.

Join representatives from the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office at your library for a special story time series on Book Lover’s Day. Celebrated on Aug. 9 every year, this is an unofficial holiday observed to encourage and celebrate reading and literature. ESCO representatives will read their favorite children’s books.

Family Tabletop Gaming at Southwest Library

  • Friday, Aug. 12 4:30-6:30 p.m.
All kinds of games can be fun and challenging to play. Don’t know how to play Mahjong? Learn how! Have a board game and want to play with other patrons? Bring it! We have many types of board games for all ages, including cooperative and competitive, simple and complex, and more.

GED Class at Molino Library

  • Beginning Aug 17: Wednesdays and Thursdays, 6 p.m.
Earn your GED at the Molino Library. This is an open enrollment program so students may enroll anytime during the semester. A current TABE test is required for enrollment. For additional information and questions reach out George Stone Counselor Patricia Harrison at 251-978-3950.

Hunter Safety Class at Molino Library

  • Wednesday, Aug. 10, 6 p.m.
Get ready for the fall hunting season. Hunters need this class to get their hunting license.  This class requires completion of the Florida's free on-line hunter safety course BEFORE attending class. Jazz by the Book:  Hosted by Joe Occhipinti at Pensacola Library

Learn to Macrame: Coasters at Pensacola Library

  • Friday, Aug. 26 at 1 p.m. (Meeting Room B)
Learn how to make basic macramé half hitch and lark’s head knots while creating a fun drink coaster to take home!  We will continue honing our macramé skills next month while making a mini plant holder.

Legal Services of North Florida

  • Tuesday, Aug. 2, 10:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m.
Legal Services of North Florida (LSNF) is one of seven legal service organizations in Florida. Our program, in the 16 counties of North Florida, works hard to meet the legal needs of children, elderly, victims of abuse, and those with disabilities. LSNF’s priority areas of representation include support for families; preserving the home; maintaining economic stability; safety, stability and health; and serving populations with special vulnerabilities. These translate to cases involving Family Law, Housing, Public Benefits, Employment, Education, and Health Care issues. LSNF’s purpose is to provide case representation and advice to low-income persons in civil matters only. LSNF serves only the low-income and those with certain vulnerable circumstances including the elderly. LSNF never charges a fee for our services to a client.

Mindful Journal at Pensacola Library

  • Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • Saturday, 10 a.m.-4p.m.
Patrons will incorporate mindfulness practices and daily journal prompts to list, describe and explore all the many things in life that they are thankful for.  Using a gratitude journal, along with mindfulness techniques, has been linked to an overall improvement in the quality of a person’s life. 

Mystery Book Bundles at Westside Library

  • Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
Stop by the Westside Library and grab a Mystery Book Bundle. Preschool bundles include three new picture books, and middle grade and young adult bundles contain two themed chapter books. All book bundles can be checked out for a total of three weeks. Be surprised by a new read today.

Sewing with STEAM for Adults at the Southwest Library

  • Monday, Aug. 8 and 22, 10 a.m.-12 p.m.
Do you like to sew or would you like to learn? Come join us as we have fun exploring the world of sewing. All skill levels welcome. We always have beginners’ projects available to get you started or you can bring in whatever you are currently working on. The library provides sewing machines, scissors, thread, and other accessories to help you on your sewing journey.

Take-home craft kits and other activities are available at the Youth Services desk at Pensacola Library. Availability is on a first-come, first-serve basis during open hours. Kits rotate regularly.

1 On 1 Tech Help at Pensacola Library

  • Wednesdays in August, 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m.  
Meet for a 30-minute session with one of our experienced computer technicians to help you understand the basic and complex functions of your computer needs. To schedule your session, please call the computer lab at 850-436-5098. 

1-on-1 Tech Help at Southwest Library

  • Wednesdays in August 10:30 a.m.-12 p.m. 
Description of event/notes of interest (minimum of two full sentences): Do you need help with using your smartphone? Need to know the basic functions of your personal laptop? Sign up for a 30-minute one-on-one session for any topic under basic computer skills. Reservations available Wednesdays (10:30, 11, and 11:30). Call 850-453-7780 to sign up.

1000 Books Before Kindergarten: Beanstack

  • Continuous - Virtual, mywfpl.beanstack.org
 Enjoy reading 1,000 books with your little ones! Log reading and earn badges all along the way. Bond with your child and inspire literacy along the way. A book a day is 365 books in a year, 730 in two years, and 1,095 in three years! There's more time than you think, so get started today! Come into the library every 100 books to claim a prize. Be rewarded at 1,000 books with a book and a certificate of achievement.
