We’re talking about different styles of painting in the seventh- and eighth-grade studio. Together we discussed paintings throughout history, what connects them, what defines them, and how they have changed over time. For our painting project, we mixed the style of Realism with the style of Fauvism (Fauves means “wild beast” in French). Students split an image into sections and practiced one style in one section and one in the other.
This allowed students to practice a realistic style and a more creative style too.
