North Panhandle News: Sixth Grade Coil Mugs with a Twist

38

North Panhandle News issued the following announcement on April 6.

Sixth grade is branching out in the clay-making process with unique and creative coil mugs. Students learned the techniques of slipping, scoring, and smoothing coils to make a functional mug or cup and were invited to put their own creative twists on the pieces. Glazed clay pieces require two firings. Firing clay is the process of superheating it to turn it solid. Clay pieces go through a bisque fire to become hard, and a second fire called a glaze fire to melt the painted liquid glass to the surface of the pottery. We hope you enjoy! - Mrs. Link
