St. Edward's School issued the following announcement on March 2.
“Freedom” by Langston Hughes and “Still I Rise” by Maya Angelou are classic pieces of writing. Chilling in their power, lyrically gorgeous and righteously outspoken, these poems represent the hopes and dreams of communities who have been historically oppressed, silenced, and ignored. In the 9-12 Studio, students spent time exploring different aspects of these poems and looking at collections of artwork made by Black American painters and sculptors. They combined these two inspirations to make the work you see here. Through this work, we hope to celebrate the accomplishments of Black communities and remind ourselves that there is still more work to be done. We hope you enjoy! - Mrs. Link
