City of Vernon issued the following announcement onJuly 15.

Bay County Emergency Services would like to present Firefighter-EMT, Shiquan Green, as this week’s #HomeTownHero.

Shiquan is originally from Washington County and has been with Bay County Emergency Services for just over a year. Shiquan also volunteers with Washington County Fire Rescue and The City of Vernon Fire Rescue.

Shiquan says that volunteering in his neighborhood is why he decided to go into the first responder field. “I continue to work as a first responder because I enjoy helping out the community when they are in need,” says Shiquan. “I enjoy every part from medical calls to structure fires. I also enjoy how family oriented the department is as a whole.”

During his time off, Shiquan loves to be outdoors. “I like everything from hunting and fishing, to trail riding on four-wheelers or horses,” says Shiquan. “On my days off, I am usually volunteering at a neighboring county fire department, but I also like to hunt deer, turkeys, and ride my horse.”

To anyone interested in entering the first responder field, Shiquan says, “Absorb all the information and education from the veterans that have been on the job for a while. Training pushes you to the limit and also educates you, so it is a win-win scenario. Education plays a huge role in this line of work. Also, set a daily goal for yourself and what you can do to help better the community.”

Shiquan, thank you for being an amazing part of the Bay County Emergency Services family. We are grateful and extremely proud to have you as a part of our team!
